Chapter 185: I brought enough to last us a week
"Boom!"
The sound vibrated through the forest, the ground shaking as shockwaves stirred up a cloud of dust.
Trees were uprooted from the ground, and the flesh of wolves was splattered across the earth.
It was a gruesome massacre, leaving the wolves with no chance to defend themselves as they died in droves.
Meanwhile, in her space, Eva stumbled weakly to the ground, her chest heaving as she stared at the sky.
"What happened out there?" Julian asked, curious, as he leaned down to carry her off the ground.
"I...haa...used that energy bomb to blast them away and rushed in here," Eva explained in ragged breaths, a smug smile curling her lips at her quick action.
Ethan pinched her nose in exasperation. Ever since she learned that dangerous move, she had been using it.
"That power is dangerous, and you could easily get injured or, worse, die. Next time, hide in the space," Ethan chided softly, his eyes dark with seriousness.
Eva’s smug smile froze for a moment, then she nodded reluctantly, though inwardly she planned to use it when they were in a dire situation.
"Alright, we’ll rest here for the night, then continue exploring tomorrow." Julian changed the subject and headed toward the stream with Eva in his arms.
Ethan now realized his blood-stained clothes; he had been worrying about her and had ignored the uncomfortable stickiness on his skin.
He followed behind them, his thoughts drifting back to the wolves, wondering whether he should peel some furs. Their snow-white fur could be used for rugs and jackets.
"Do we have any meat left? We haven’t hunted anything since we came to this island. Only seafood is left in the kitchen," Eva muttered in a troubled tone. She needed meat to regain her lost energy.
Julian set her down on the grassy ground before reminding her.
"Remember those wolves we killed? There’s enough meat to eat for days." His words made her eyes light up, and she felt the urge to rush out of her space to pick up some wolf meat.
Julian removed his bloodstained top, tossing it onto the ground beside her.
His action drew her attention, and her mind went blank at the sight of his chiseled abs. She swallowed hard, her gaze tracing his chest, drifting lower than his waistline.
Julian, who was about to remove his trousers, felt her heated gaze and froze. Then a teasing glint flickered in his eyes.
He slowly pulled down his zipper, so slowly that Eva almost lost her patience, wishing to undress him herself.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity to Eva, the zipper was down. Her eyes flickered in anticipation, waiting for him to pull down his pants.
But Julian stalled, his fingers tugging at the waistband as if it were glued to his skin.
’Oh, that’s it!’ she yelled inwardly and lunged at Julian, pushing into the water.
They both fell with a loud splash. Eva pulled at his trousers while Julian struggled as if he were a fair maiden about to be r*ped.
His eyes gleamed with laughter as he watched her struggle. Eva caught the teasing glint in his eyes and bit his nape in frustration.
Julian hissed before bursting into a chuckle.
"You did that on purpose, didn’t you?!" Eva huffed, pinching his nipple to vent her annoyance.
"Ow... sorry, but your face was priceless. I couldn’t help myself," Julian laughed as he slipped out of her grasp, splashing her with water as he swam away.
Ethan, who had just arrived, watched their playful interaction as Eva chased Julian in mock anger, unable to suppress a faint smile.
He shook his head, a faint smile on his lips, undressed, and jumped into the water with a loud plop.
After a while, they returned to their tent, changed into clean clothes, and Ethan dried Eva’s hair while Julian went to get their dinner.
Unknown to them, a giant eye flickered open deep in the ocean, but it closed again, sinking into deep slumber.
The shockwave from the energy blast had startled the behemoth deep in the ocean depths.
Fortunately, it was too lazy to investigate, or chaos would have erupted.
....
The next day. Julian took in the gruesome sight of the wolves’ splattered corpses and let out a whistle, torn between amazement and horror at the brutality of her attack.
"Tell me never to cross you, or I might be reduced to ashes," Julian muttered jokingly, the morning sun clearly illuminating the devastation.
"I don’t think we can salvage any complete fur or meat," Ethan muttered in a disappointed tone, his gaze darting around only to see a field of scattered flesh, broken trees, and torn earth.
Eva lowered her head, feeling guilty for no reason. "Ahem, maybe we should go back to the place where we first encountered those wolves. There might be a complete corpse left." She suggested with an awkward cough.
"Wait here," Julian said, then teleported.
Ethan’s ears pricked up at any sound of beasts. The air was thick with blood and should have drawn other beasts, yet the forest remained silent, which baffled him.
Unaware that the beasts had been scared off by another dangerous predator, the area would otherwise have been swarming with creatures eager to feast on the wolves’ remains.
"I’m back, and I brought enough to last us a week—if Eva dear doesn’t indulge." Julian appeared before them, rubbing his space ring with a satisfied smile, giving Eva a pointed look.
"Hmph! You make it sound like I don’t have any control," Eva huffed, an irked expression on her face, though inwardly her mouth watered at the thought of meat.
"How many did you bring back? 300...250...200...(ب_ب)" Her cherry voice grew disappointed as Julian shook his head dazedly at each number she called.
Julian and Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise at the outrageous number that left her lips.
"Thirty, thirty! Don’t guess again. Did you expect us to eat wolf meat forever? I even thought I brought back a lot, but your imagination is really eye-opening." Julian quickly interrupted her, placing a finger to her lips to stop her from speaking further.
Eva pulled his finger from her lips and retorted.
"Mmm... It’s too small! Are you sure it’ll last us long enough before we encounter another beast?"
She truly felt it wasn’t enough for the three of them and their beasts to eat.
"You! Sigh..." Julian trailed off, short of words to refute her. He could only drag her forward by the shoulder, fearing that if he wasted a moment, he might be forced to pack a hundred pounds of wolf meat.
"But—" Eva started, only to be interrupted by Ethan.
"We have to leave here immediately; the stench of blood might attract more beasts. Let’s go." Ethan tried to scare her on purpose, echoing Julian’s fears, while the quiet surroundings unsettled him.
Eva looked back with a reluctant expression as Ethan and Julian dragged her forward. ’I should have taken some meat back from that earlier fight. Sigh... she thought with regret.
They traveled on foot for a while before switching to their beasts. The surrounding trees had changed, with wildflowers and grass scattered across the ground.
"Buzz...’’
Ethan was the first to notice the sound. He stopped, looking at the yellow-red leaves scattered across the trees with a puzzled frown. Eva also halted and looked up, trying to see what had made him stop, but she saw and heard nothing.
"Did you hear something?" Julian asked, a hint of caution flickering in his eyes as he turned toward Ethan.
Ethan remained silent, his normal ears transforming into furry ones that twitched as he strained to pick up the buzzing sound.
The silence around them broke with loud buzzing; they all turned toward a tree on their right, their hands reaching for their weapons.
Suddenly, the sun was obscured by moving shadows. Eva’s eyes widened in fright as she saw the beast clearly.
"Sh*t! Run!" Eva shouted as oversized bees flew in their direction. Normal bees were already deadly; now, with these massive ones, they would be stung to death.
Julian and Ethan urged their beasts forward without hesitation—they could hear the terror in Eva’s voice.
