Years turn into wind

Chapter 194 Fighting Side by Side

Chapter 194 Fighting Side by Side

At daybreak, Ling Xiaotian was ready to go, his figure standing tall in the morning sun. Cheng Yuwei stood at the door, watching him walk towards the carriage parked in the courtyard.

"Xiaotian, this plan..." Cheng Yuwei couldn't help but remind him, "It must be foolproof."

Ling Xiaotian turned around, a confident smile on his face. "Yuwei, the potions you gave me are enough to catch them off guard. I'm absolutely confident. When I return triumphantly, we'll make up for all the hard work we've put in during this period."

Cheng Yuwei nodded, but there was still a hint of worry in her eyes. She knew that this operation was not only related to the battle situation on the front line, but also might become an important part of their conspiracy to thwart the Zhao army.

Ambush Battle

When Ling Xiaotian's troops were marching near the northern forest, the spies brought the latest intelligence: the Zhao army's ambush point was in a valley less than three miles ahead.

"Commander, the enemy has approximately 500 troops, and they're extremely well-prepared." The adjutant handed over a map. "According to our spies, they've laid multiple traps, waiting for our main force to pass through."

Ling Xiaotian narrowed his eyes, his gaze sharp as a knife: "What a Zhao Jun! Did he really think I would charge head-on?"

He pointed at the map and said, "Pass the order down. Tell the third and fourth companies to take a detour, disguised as a supply convoy, to lure the enemy out. The main force will ambush on the high ground on both sides. Once the enemy is exposed, we will immediately attack from both sides."

"Yes!" the adjutant responded and left.

The battle began quickly.

The Zhao army fell for the trick. When they spotted the "supply convoy" approaching, they immediately launched an ambush. However, before they could completely expose their position, Ling Xiaotian's main force had already occupied the high ground and launched a precise attack on them.

"Fire!" With Ling Xiaotian's order, the soldiers ambushing on both sides opened fire at the same time. The bullets rained down like a waterfall, catching the Zhao army off guard.

The medicine Cheng Yuwei had developed was also effective at this point. It not only stopped the bleeding quickly, but also effectively relieved the pain and improved the soldiers' combat effectiveness. After simple treatment, the injured soldiers were quickly able to return to battle.

The battle lasted less than an hour before the Zhao army was completely defeated. Among the prisoners were several high-ranking officers of the Zhao army.

"Commander, should we handle these people or take them directly back to the Marshal's Mansion?" asked the adjutant.

Ling Xiaotian sneered, "Let them have a taste of defeat. Take them back temporarily. Perhaps we can pry something useful out of them."

Waiting at the Marshal's Mansion

Meanwhile, Cheng Yuwei waited anxiously for news from the front lines in the Marshal's residence. Every moment felt like a long, agonizing torture. She wanted to go out and inquire about the situation several times, but she forced herself to calm down.

Xiao Cui noticed her uneasiness and gently advised, "Madam, don't worry too much. The commander has always been very smart and will be fine."

"I know..." Cheng Yuwei sighed, "but every time I think of him in the hail of bullets, I'm always worried."

As she was speaking, she heard hurried footsteps outside the door. She quickly stood up and saw her adjutant walking in, exhausted, with news of victory from the front.

"Madam, the Commander has achieved a great victory! The Zhao army's ambush was completely crushed, and many important figures were captured."

Cheng Yuwei's heart finally settled down, and she raised the corner of her mouth slightly: "That's great."

Reunion

As night fell, Ling Xiaotian finally led his team back to the Marshal's Mansion. As soon as he stepped through the gate, he saw Cheng Yuwei standing on the steps, her eyes filled with unconcealed joy.

"You're back?" Cheng Yuwei came forward, her tone filled with complaints, "Why didn't you send someone to tell me in advance so I could prepare something."

Ling Xiaotian gently took her hand and whispered, "Seeing you is the best welcome."

The two walked into the hall side by side. Ling Xiaotian had someone bring in some spoils of war, including the Zhao army's battle plan and some confidential documents.

"These things are the lifeblood of the Zhao army." Ling Xiaotian handed Cheng Yuwei a document. "I need your help to find any clues related to the lack of medicinal material supply."

Cheng Yuwei flipped through the documents and studied them carefully for a moment. Sure enough, she found several suspicious records. "There are several names on these lists that seem to have direct connections to the herbal medicine dealers. If we follow the clues, we should be able to find the people behind them."

Ling Xiaotian nodded, a cold look flashing in his eyes: "It seems that we have to start closing the net."

Tender moments

After a busy day, Ling Xiaotian finally had a moment of leisure. He pushed open the door of the study and saw Cheng Yuwei still sorting documents under the lamp. He couldn't help but walk over and pull her up from the chair.

"That's enough, stop busying yourself." He gently took her into his arms, "We can deal with these things tomorrow."

Cheng Yuwei leaned on his shoulder, feeling the warmth of his chest, and whispered, "I just want to help you share more of the burden as soon as possible."

Ling Xiaotian lowered his head and kissed her forehead, his tone full of doting: "You have done enough, now you just need to rest well, leave the rest to me."

The two of them snuggled up to each other quietly, the sound of the wind outside gradually died down, and the entire mansion was shrouded in tranquility and peace.
