Chapter 123: Strategy and Breakout

Chapter 123: Strategy and Breakout

Ling Xiaotian held Cheng Yuwei in one arm, and with the other, he signaled his guards to be on guard. The sharp bird cry was clearly a signal; the enemy's movements were imminent. Under the moonlight, the soldiers raised their weapons, their eyes wary and solemn.

"Madam, please follow me back to the tent." Zhou Hao quickly approached and whispered. Cheng Yuwei shook her head, her eyes firm: "No, I want to stay here with you."

Ling Xiaotian glanced at her, a helpless smile rising from the corner of his mouth: "Okay, but remember, follow me closely."

At that moment, a commotion erupted from the outskirts of the camp. A dark figure leaped from the darkness like lightning, dagger in hand, charging at the camp guard. Caught off guard, the guard fell to the ground, blood gushing out.

"Oh no! There is an enemy attack!" Zhou Hao shouted, and the entire camp was instantly alarmed, and the soldiers quickly entered combat status.

Ling Xiaotian drew his long sword and walked steadily towards the shadow. Seeing their attack discovered, the shadow immediately turned and fled, nimble as a civet cat. Ling Xiaotian snorted coldly, and with a powerful push of his feet, he quickly pursued. Inside the camp, the light of torches illuminated the pursuit path, and the soldiers followed closely behind.

Cheng Yuwei stood there, watching Ling Xiaotian's back, a wave of nervousness building inside her. She turned around and saw the suspicious soldier sneak into a tent. She was startled and immediately turned to chase him.

Inside the tent, a soldier was sorting through a roll of hidden documents, his face filled with panic. Cheng Yuwei flung open the tent door and asked coldly, "What are you doing?"

The soldier was startled by the noise and turned to flee. Cheng Yuwei quickly stepped forward, grabbed his collar, and shouted, "Come here, catch this man!"

The soldier struggled desperately, his eyes gleaming with despair and madness. He whipped out a dagger, attempting to strike back. Cheng Yuwei's heart tightened, but she didn't flinch. At this critical moment, a figure rushed into the tent like lightning, swatted the dagger from the soldier's hand, and pinned him to the ground.

"Yuwei, are you okay?" Ling Xiaotian turned around and looked at her, a hint of anxiety in his eyes.

"I'm fine." Cheng Yuwei patted her chest. Her heart was beating like a drum, but she tried to calm herself down.

Zhou Hao and several soldiers arrived upon hearing the noise, tied up the subdued soldier, and marched him out of the tent. Ling Xiaotian picked up the scattered documents on the ground and flipped through them with a serious look, discovering a detailed record of the barracks' defenses and supplies. If this information were leaked, the consequences would be disastrous.

"It seems that there is indeed a traitor in our camp." Zhou Hao said in a deep voice, scanning the surroundings as if he wanted to see through every soldier.

"Interrogate this man and see who is behind him." Ling Xiaotian handed the document to Zhou Hao with a cold tone, as if foreshadowing the coming storm.

Cheng Yuwei felt a chill creep over her. She knew this was far from over, and the enemy in the shadows must have a deeper conspiracy. However, when her eyes fell on Ling Xiaotian again, she felt a sense of peace in her heart. No matter how treacherous the road ahead, with him by her side, she no longer feared.

Outside the tent, the soldiers had restored order, but the night was still filled with tension. Ling Xiaotian gently patted Cheng Yuwei's shoulder and said softly, "Are you scared tonight?"

Cheng Yuwei shook her head, her lips slightly raised: "No, I know you will arrive in time."

The two smiled at each other, and the brief warmth seemed precious in this chaos.
