Chapter 105 Return to Calmness

Chapter 105 Return to Calmness

The annihilation of the remaining Canglangs brought a moment of peace, allowing Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei to finally breathe a sigh of relief. The next day after returning to the Marshal's residence, a relaxed atmosphere permeated the entire place. The long-awaited peace seemed to bring a sigh of relief to everyone.

The morning sun streamed into the courtyard. Cheng Yuwei woke early and opened the window. She watched the morning mist gradually dissipate, leaving the air filled with a faint floral fragrance, a refreshing relief. She thought about the hardships and risks she had endured, feeling a little tired but also relieved. She slowly walked out of the room and strolled through the garden, savoring this moment of peace.

When she reached the lake, Ling Xiaotian was already waiting there, holding a cup of hot tea. Seeing her approach, he smiled and handed her the tea. "Yuwei, there's no need to worry about complicated matters today. Why don't we spend a relaxing morning by the lake?"

Cheng Yuwei took the teacup and sat down beside him with a smile. They sat side by side, gazing at the blue sky and white clouds reflected in the lake, their hearts at peace. Ling Xiaotian reached out and gently embraced her, whispering, "Yuwei, my life has changed since I met you. I used to think I'd spend my whole life on the battlefield, but every moment with you fills me with a whole new warmth."

Cheng Yuwei was slightly startled, her heart warming. She looked up at Ling Xiaotian, a gentle light glimmering in her eyes, and replied softly, "Xiaotian, me too. I have never regretted being able to fight, laugh, and face difficulties with you."

The two smiled at each other, as if all the noise in the world was isolated and they were the only ones snuggling together in this warm world. Cheng Yuwei felt a surge of tenderness in her heart, and she leaned lightly on Ling Xiaotian's shoulder, closed her eyes, and quietly felt the warmth of this moment.

With the extermination operation concluded, Ling Xiaotian decided to give everyone in the mansion a few days off to rest and recuperate. During these few days, the Marshal's mansion had returned to its usual busyness, yet it felt exceptionally warm. The servants bustled about preparing various celebratory banquets and even prepared numerous small games, which kept the entire mansion laughing.

While Cheng Yuwei was strolling in the garden, she happened to see a new maid with delicate features and a bright smile, but she always stood quietly in the corner. She was curious and went forward to greet her. The maid seemed a little flustered, lowered her head, and hurriedly saluted.

Cheng Yuwei smiled and said, "Don't be nervous. I'm just asking casually, what's your name?"

The maid replied in a low voice: "Madam, my name is Xiaolan, and I am new here."

"I see. Xiaolan, you look so pretty and charming, so don't be afraid. People in this mansion have always been kind. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, just tell me." Cheng Yuwei comforted her softly.

Xiaolan nodded several times and thanked him repeatedly, but revealed a faint smile as she left. Although Cheng Yuwei didn't care, she felt a little uneasy in her heart.

That night, Cheng Yuwei was browsing through a potion recipe in her room when she heard some commotion outside. She quickly put on her coat and walked into the courtyard, only to see several guards surrounding a figure: Xiaolan, her maid from the daytime.

When Xiaolan was captured, her face was pale, but she didn't struggle at all. She looked at Cheng Yuwei coldly. She seemed to have anticipated her fate and was not panicked at all. Cheng Yuwei stepped forward and asked calmly, "Xiaolan, I didn't expect you to be a spy planted in the mansion. Who sent you?"

Xiaolan smiled contemptuously: "Madam is really smart. But I won't tell you anything, because you are destined to not escape the next disaster."

Cheng Yuwei frowned slightly, knowing there must be a larger conspiracy at play. Even so, Xiaolan's reference to "disaster" had already alerted her. She calmly responded, "Do you think you can shake this mansion by yourself? I'm afraid you're being naive."

Xiaolan sneered and said nothing, as if she didn't care about her own ending at all, with a hint of crazy determination in her eyes.

When Ling Xiaotian learned of this, he immediately increased the guards and detained Xiaolan for questioning. However, despite their harsh interrogation, Xiaolan remained tight-lipped, saying only coldly, "What's coming will come sooner or later."

A glint of gloom flashed across Ling Xiaotian's eyes, realizing that this was just one of the enemy's hidden tactics. He held Cheng Yuwei's hand, his eyes determined, "Yuwei, no matter what disaster comes, we will face it together. I will do my utmost to protect you and keep you out of any danger."

Cheng Yuwei nodded slightly and responded softly: "Xiaotian, I will also accompany you and face everything together. No matter how many storms there are ahead, we will work together to overcome the difficulties."

The two stood hugging each other, firmly believing in each other in the night. No matter how severe the future crisis is, they will walk side by side and protect each other's happiness.

A little suspense: Although Xiaolan has been captured, her sneer and cryptic words foreshadow a greater crisis brewing. Who is behind this, and what conspiracy awaits Ling Xiaotian and Cheng Yuwei?
