Chapter 152 Entering the Shed Area

Chapter 152 Entering the Shed Area

Because most of the mercenaries were stationed at the government headquarters, their objective was clear: to force the government to abandon independence. The plague and blockade were merely tools for them to demoralize people. Therefore, there were almost no mercenaries on the roads far from the city center. However, they were still very cautious, driving without their headlights on. Chen Che drove entirely from memory, and fortunately, there was nothing on the road, so it was relatively safe.

About an hour later, they saw on their left that faint lights were being cut into starlight by the steel bars surrounding the shed.

"We're here." Chen Che slowly parked the car, and then the two of them quietly opened and closed the doors. Following his memory, Chen Che bent down and found the hole where he had met Lao Huang and the others during the day. "This is it." Xu Ao looked at the size of the hole, which was indeed only big enough for one person to crouch down and go in and out. However, the entire shed area was quiet, so nothing should have happened.

Chen Che and Xu Ao put on masks and gloves before crouching down to go inside. Once inside, the two of them didn't dare to move around casually, in case they alerted others and caused a disturbance.

Once inside the shack area, they truly experienced what the atmosphere of death meant. All they heard were weak groans, persistent coughs, and the occasional hoarse, feeble cries of children. There was no sound of anyone speaking. The entire shack area was like their grave, devoid of any life.

Chen Che and Xu Ao walked around cautiously, glancing around as they went. "I forgot to ask Lao Huang which tent Yuri is staying in. But all the tents here look the same. How am I supposed to find him?" They couldn't shout, which really stumped Xu Ao.

Just as he was bending over and looking around, he suddenly spotted a familiar figure in the corner. He quickly tugged at Chen Che's arm, and the two of them hurried toward the person. "Lin Hanshuang?"

"Ah~" Lin Hanshuang was startled by the figure and voice that suddenly appeared behind her, but her brain instinctively reacted and realized that the figure was speaking Chinese. She quickly covered her mouth and turned around.

"Shh! It's me. Do you remember me?" Xu Ao saw the tears welling up in her eyes and quickly said, "Can we go inside and talk?"

Lin Hanshuang quickly led them into the tent.

The tent had limited space; besides a bed and a table made from discarded cardboard boxes, there was nothing else. Xu Ao saw that many medicines on their bed had been opened and consumed, and the tent was filled with a strong smell of alcohol.

"Why are you here?" Lin Hanshuang led them into the tent and then went outside to observe them warily for a while before coming back in to ask them.

"We need to see Yuri, where is he?" Xu Ao asked quickly, not having time to explain to her.

"He went to Vani's tent to discuss something. Shall I take you there?"

"Okay." Xu Ao and the others followed Lin Hanshuang, turning left and right until they reached the outside of another tent. Lin Hanshuang whispered into the tent, "The people from the embassy have arrived. It's Xu Ao and his group."

As soon as she finished speaking, a soft rustling sound came from inside. Then Yuri opened the tent and was overjoyed to see them. "Come in quickly."

Xu Ao and Chen Che entered the tent, where a dozen or so people were sitting. They were all thin and weak, but their eyes were unusually firm and bright. Their scrutinizing gazes softened considerably after Yuri said that the medicine was brought in by them.

"Yuri, we've come to you because we need to ask you for a favor." Xu Ao kept his words brief, explaining their idea and handing him the camera. He instructed him to return the camera to Xu Ao at the same time and place a day later.

After finishing his business with them, Xu Ao instructed them again: "Don't make any unusual moves these next two days. The fact that we were able to enter safely means that you haven't done anything and haven't aroused the suspicion of the mercenaries, which is good." Xu Ao looked at the medicine boxes scattered in the tent, and then at the men. Although they were weak, they no longer looked sickly. He understood that these men had become smarter.

“Yes, because we know that once those people find out we have the medicine, they will definitely try to steal it, so don’t worry about that. But there are a few people who are in more serious condition, and they will have to wait a few more days after taking the medicine. Oh, by the way, Nasha, do you know them? Their child is in quite serious condition, do you want to go and take a look?” Yuri suddenly thought of Nasha’s family. When he went to distribute the medicine to them this morning, he noticed that their child didn’t look well.

Upon hearing the name, Xu Ao immediately thought of Huang Meng. "Yes, please lead the way."

Xu Ao followed Yuri out of the tent. Although there were some scattered lights in the shed area, the light source was very limited. Even with Yuri, Chen Che and Xu Ao bumped into other tents several times.

After a few bumpy turns, they finally arrived. Yuri opened the tent flap and went inside, saying something to Nasha. Xu Ao and Chen Che then followed him in.

The tent was obviously much more crowded. Yaqin sat on the bed holding Duowa, kissing her forehead from time to time, her eyes full of worry.

“Oh, this child, we haven’t been able to find formula, and she can’t eat what we’re eating. She’s hardly ever had a proper meal. Now she’s infected with the plague. We’ve all gotten better after taking medicine, but she’s the only one who’s getting better. She’s such a poor child.” Nasha said, tears streaming down her face, and she couldn’t help but look at Dorva.

When Chen Che looked at the little girl hiding in Yaqin's arms, her small face showing only a pair of large, frightened eyes, his heart couldn't help but clench. Suddenly, he remembered something, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a bag of biscuits, which he had found while cleaning his room that night.

"Hmm, this is a cookie. It's sweet, and eating it will cure your illness." Chen Che carefully squatted down by the bed and said softly to Duowa. Then he slowly handed the cookie to her, afraid that his sudden action would frighten her.

Fortunately, Dorwa didn't react too strongly. She mechanically took the biscuit and stared blankly at Chen Che. Her appearance was so unbearable that he couldn't bear to look at her any longer. He quickly got up and stood by the tent, turned his head slightly, and blinked hard.

Xu Ao looked at Nasha, who was so thin he could barely stand up straight. When they met earlier, there was a hint of surprise in his eyes, but his body was too weak, making it difficult for him to even express his emotions.

"Withered and haggard" is no longer an adjective that requires appreciation; it's practically a true reflection of the family of four. Xu Ao couldn't bear to bother them any longer, so after asking a few more questions, he hurriedly left.

When they reached the edge of the cave, Xu Ao couldn't help but remind Nasha, "Whatever you were planning or discussing in the tent just now, please wait a little longer."

Nasha nodded vigorously at Xu Ao, and then Chen Che and Xu Ao crawled out one after the other, immediately got into the car and returned the way they came.
