Chapter 136 Digging a hole

"Hey, you two, you're not picky about where you are." Li Shuo and Jiang Ying had already solved the problem with the excavator and would definitely pass by here on their way back to their room. They thought there was no one here anymore, but when they saw the two of them hugging, Li Shuo couldn't help but complain.

“There are broken bones of some deceased person on that table, and you two are hugging and cuddling in front of them, really…” Li Shuo didn’t finish his sentence, glancing at Huang Meng and Xu Ao with a look of disdain.

"Yes, you're right." Xu Ao let go of Huang Meng, gave Li Shuo a bright smile, and then took Huang Meng's hand and walked upstairs.

"What's wrong with him! Why did he smile at me?!" Li Shuo stared blankly at Xu Ao's back as the two figures walked away.

"Yes, I saw it." Jiang Ying shook her head helplessly at his stunned expression, then went upstairs.

"The power of love is truly great!" Li Shuo said with deep emotion after thinking for a while.

Nothing happened that night. The next morning, after breakfast, the group gathered in the courtyard as if by unspoken agreement.

"So, when do we start?" Li Shuo asked Xu Ao.

"Jiang Ying has already gone to operate the excavator. We'll wait here for a while." As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Ying drove the excavator over from behind.

Li Shuo kept staring at Jiang Ying until she drove her excavator past him, rolled her eyes at him, and drove off expressionlessly.

"Hey, no, she really has a problem with me! I'm just standing here and not moving, why is she just staring at me like that!" Li Shuo looked at the back of the excavator and said to the others with some resentment.

"Yeah, I might just be a little annoyed by you, that's all. Don't overthink it!" Huang Meng said to Li Shuo with a smile.

"No, is that how you comfort people?!" Huang Meng said and followed the excavator away. Li Shuo felt even more depressed as he watched her back.

"Hurry up and catch up!" Zhao Meng walked past him, placing the tools they would be using later in front of him. "Here you go!"

Several people followed the excavator all the way to the edge of the large pit from yesterday. Early in the morning, Xu Ao and Zhao Meng had already arrived and cleared away the weeds around the pit. The pit was now fully exposed. Without the cover of weeds, the dark pit looked like a bottomless abyss, making people afraid to approach.

Jiang Ying was already ready at the edge of the pit. Xu Ao nodded at her, and then Jiang Ying skillfully began to operate the equipment. Everyone stood quietly at the edge of the pit and waited.

This was Huang Meng's first time here. As she got closer, she couldn't tell if it was psychological or visual, but staring at the dark pit, she would unconsciously take deep breaths.

Zhao Meng looked at her, then frowned and looked at Xu Ao, who was intently staring at the excavator's mechanical arm.

“It’s normal to be scared. I was startled yesterday too. Just take a few deep breaths and relax for a while,” Zhao Meng said quietly, leaning slightly behind Huang Meng.

"Okay, I understand." Huang Meng turned her head slightly and replied softly when she heard his voice.

Jiang Ying was very skilled at operating the excavator. Soon, the excavator's mechanical arm slowly rose with the object at the bottom of the pit. Xu Ao had been watching closely and had already rolled up his sleeves, ready to go.

"Okay, slow down, put it here." Li Shuo shouted to Jiang Ying. With a "clang", a pile of bones mixed with the stench of dirt rushed towards them. Xu Ao and Li Shuo, who were standing in front, were choked and quickly turned around. "Take her away." Xu Ao glanced at Zhao Meng, who was not far behind him, and shouted loudly.

Xu Ao caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye that Zhao Meng had completely blocked Huang Meng's view before he could speak. This guy was really persistent, but he had more important things to do right now.

Xu Ao couldn't wait for the dust to clear. He waved his hand in front of him, picked up his tools, and stepped forward. As Lao Huang had instructed, they just needed to sort the bones out of the dust. The workload might be a bit heavier afterward, but for him, it just meant he wouldn't have any free rest time.

Li Shuo watched as Xu Ao squatted on the ground, carefully picking through the remains without any disgust. Although they were both wearing two layers of protective gloves and masks, they were dealing with remains of unknown origin, and even in broad daylight, he still felt the air around them was a bit chilly.

"Everyone, blame those mercenaries. We'll give you a proper burial. Amen, Hallelujah!" Li Shuo muttered to himself, gesturing with his hands. Finally, he opened his eyes as if he had made up his mind and walked to Xu Ao's side.

After settling Huang Meng in, Zhao Meng followed her, saying, "I can help too." Huang Meng tried to walk forward with Zhao Meng, but Zhao Meng stopped her with his hand.

"You stay here and keep an eye on things for Jiang Ying. Her view is obstructed up there. This pit is round, not straight, so you need to help her keep track of the route," Zhao Meng said with a slight smile.
