Chapter 392: A Strange Journey Through the Fantastic Desert
After leaving the fairy island, Liu Yu and his companions continued their journey on the vast ocean. The waves surged and crashed against the hull, making a crisp, loud "splashing" sound, and the splashes of water shimmered like diamonds in the sunlight. Pigsy sat on the boat, a satisfied smile spreading across his chubby face, a smile as radiant as a blooming flower. He kept reminiscing about his experiences on the fairy island, and clutched tightly in his hand a small portion of the treasure he had brought back from there.
"Hehe, this trip to the fairy island was definitely worthwhile! Even if we had to return part of that pearl, we still won't lose out. Look at this treasure in my hand! When we get back, we can exchange it for lots of good food and drinks. Maybe it can even help me, Old Pig, get a beautiful wife!" Pigsy said with great enthusiasm, his fat face jiggling happily, his eyes narrowed into slits, as if he could already see the incredibly wonderful future he was living.
Liu Yu stood steadily at the bow of the ship, the sea breeze playfully whipping his hair, causing it to dance wildly in the wind. His gaze was deep as he looked out at the boundless blue ocean, a mixture of worry and anticipation in his eyes. "I don't know what we'll encounter next. Everyone must remain vigilant. This world is full of unknowns; we can't afford to be careless," Liu Yu thought to himself, his brow furrowing slightly, forming a shallow chin, his serious expression suggesting he was contemplating strategies to cope with the challenges ahead.
Xiaoqing leaned against the ship's railing, the sea breeze gently ruffling her skirt and hair. She gazed silently at the ocean, her mind filled with countless thoughts. Her beautiful face appeared even more captivating in the sunlight, her fair skin seemingly bathed in a soft golden glow, yet her eyes held a hint of confusion and unease. "This adventure has been both thrilling and exhilarating. I wonder when we'll find our way back. But as long as we're together, it doesn't seem so scary." She sighed softly, the sound as gentle as a breeze rustling through leaves, a smile unconsciously playing on her lips as she recalled the journey, those thrilling and heartwarming moments flashing through her mind like a movie.
Fahai sat to one side, silently chanting scriptures, the staff in his hand emitting a faint yet warm Buddhist light. His expression was calm and serene, as if none of the noise and disturbances of the outside world could disturb the tranquility and peace within his heart. His lips trembled slightly, and scriptures flowed slowly from his mouth, like a gentle lullaby, echoing softly in the air.
Little Tian ran around excitedly on the boat, its small figure full of boundless energy. Sometimes it would run to the bow and curiously look at the distant sea, and sometimes it would run to Pigsy's side and happily rub against his leg, barking "woof woof" from time to time, as if telling everyone about its joy and excitement.
After sailing for several days on the turbulent sea, they finally saw land. It was a vast, boundless desert, with golden sand dunes stretching endlessly, shimmering under the blazing sun, like an endless golden ocean. Every grain of sand seemed to be edged with dazzling gold by the sunlight. From afar, this desert was both magnificent and mysterious, inspiring both awe and reverence.
"Wow, this desert looks so magnificent!" Pigsy couldn't wait to jump off the boat and excitedly stepped onto the soft sand. However, his heavy body instantly caused his feet to sink deep into the sand, which went up to his ankles. He stumbled and almost fell to the ground in a sorry state.
Liu Yu cautiously disembarked from the boat. The moment his feet touched the sand, he felt an indescribable heat. Looking at the desert before him, he was filled with curiosity and a desire to explore, but also remained highly vigilant. "Everyone be careful. Danger may lurk in the desert. We don't know what unknown challenges await us here, so we must proceed with caution." Liu Yu's voice was serious and steady. His gaze, sharp as a hawk's, scanned the surrounding dunes, trying to detect any possible anomalies from the calm surface.
The group began to venture into the desert, initially captivated by its unique beauty. The undulating sand dunes, like golden waves, swayed gently in the breeze, the fine sand resembling flowing gold. Occasionally, a few tenacious cacti stood upright in the sand, their sharp thorns adding a rare touch of life and vitality to this desolate landscape.
But as time went on, the scorching sun hung relentlessly in the sky like a giant, burning fireball. The intense sunlight seared their skin like fire, and every step felt like it drained all their strength. The air seemed to be distorted by the heat, making it difficult to breathe and their throats parched as if they were about to burst into flames.
"I, Old Pig, can't walk anymore! This godforsaken place is too hot!" Pigsy panted heavily, his entire body lying on the sand like a rag doll, refusing to get up. Large beads of sweat rolled down his face like rain, soaking the sand beneath him. His clothes were also drenched in sweat, clinging tightly to his body, making him feel incredibly uncomfortable. "This is like a steam room! If we keep going, I, Old Pig, will be roasted alive!" Pigsy complained, fanning himself with his hand, trying to bring some coolness, but the weak breeze was utterly useless in the scorching desert heat.
Liu Yu shook his head helplessly, sweat trickling down his face. He walked to Zhu Bajie's side, bent down, and tried to pull him up. "Bajie, get up quickly. We have to keep going, otherwise it will be even more dangerous after dark. The desert nights are very cold, and there might be wild animals around." Liu Yu's voice was tinged with urgency and anxiety. He gripped Zhu Bajie's arm tightly, the veins on his hands bulging from the force.
Xiaoqing, dragging her weary body, laboriously walked to the other side of Zhu Bajie. "Yes, Bajie, don't be lazy. We need to find a place to rest as soon as possible, otherwise none of us can hold on." Xiaoqing's voice was weak, but still firm and strong. She looked at Zhu Bajie with expectant eyes, hoping he could cheer up.
Fahai, however, maintained a calm and composed expression. He walked steadily to Zhu Bajie, clasped his hands together, and solemnly said, "Amitabha, Bajie, everyone is persevering, and you cannot give up either. Only by overcoming difficulties together can we leave this desert." Fahai's voice, like a morning bell or evening drum, brought a touch of solace to the soul in this unbearably hot environment.
Xiao Tian ran over, grabbed Pigsy's clothes, and tried to pull him up. It barked as it pulled, its barks filled with urgency and encouragement, as if saying, "Get up! Don't be lazy! We still have to keep going together!"
Despite his reluctance, Pigsy managed to get up with a groan after being persuaded and pulled by the others. He muttered, "This life is unbearable. Why should I, Old Pig, suffer like this?" He complained as he dragged his leaden feet along behind the others, each step a struggle.
As they walked, they discovered an abandoned ancient city. This ancient city may have once been incredibly prosperous, but now the city walls have collapsed, and the ruins appear dilapidated under the erosion of wind and sand. Most of the houses are just rickety frames, as if silently telling the story of its former glory and vicissitudes.
"This place must have been quite prosperous before." Liu Yu walked into the ancient city, carefully avoiding the pebbles and dust underfoot, observing his surroundings closely. The ancient walls were etched with the marks of time; those deep and shallow marks were like fingerprints of history, recording the rise and fall of this ancient city. The streets were covered with a thick layer of dust, and occasionally one could see some broken pottery and rusty weapons, lying there quietly, as if waiting for someone to uncover the stories behind them.
Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind swept through without warning, whipping up a cloud of yellow sand. The wind howled like the roar of a ferocious beast, its deafening sound sending chills down one's spine. The sand, swirling in the wind, formed a yellow curtain, blotting out the sun and instantly disorienting everyone.
"Oh no, everyone be careful!" Liu Yu shouted. His voice was instantly swallowed by the gale, but he still tried his best to make everyone hear his warning. In the gale, his figure appeared so small yet so resolute.
Amidst the howling wind, a band of desert bandits appeared. Riding tall camels and wielding gleaming scimitars, they charged forward menacingly. Their faces were veiled in black, revealing only pairs of fierce and greedy eyes, eyes that seemed to glare like hungry wolves eyeing their prey.
"Haha, hand over all your valuables!" the bandit leader shouted, his voice particularly shrill in the wind, full of arrogance and conceit.
Pigsy was terrified, his face turning pale and his whole body trembling. He quickly hid behind Fahai, his body shaking uncontrollably. "What should we do? I, Old Pig, don't want to hand over the treasure!" His voice was choked with sobs as he clutched Fahai's cassock tightly, as if it were his last straw.
Fahai stepped forward, facing the vicious bandits with a calm and fearless expression. "Amitabha, benefactors, lay down your weapons and become Buddhas on the spot. Do not do evil, or you will suffer the consequences." Fahai's voice was loud and firm, like a resounding bell, clearly reaching everyone's ears in the strong wind, attempting to use the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism to reform these bandits whose hearts were blinded by greed.
The bandit leader sneered disdainfully, "Enough nonsense, brothers, charge!" He brandished his curved sword and charged towards Liu Yu and the others, followed by the bandits who also rushed over with strange cries.
Liu Yu unleashed his magic, his hands waving as light flashed, like a dazzling star bursting forth. He attempted to use this powerful spell to scare away the bandits; the light was as bright as lightning, illuminating the surrounding dust.
The bandits remained unmoved, their eyes filled only with greed and desire. They completely disregarded Liu Yu's powerful magic and continued their frenzied charge.
Xiaoqing brandished her sword and engaged in a fierce battle with the bandits. Her movements were light and graceful, like a fairy dancing in the air. The sword in her hand was like lightning, each swing carrying a sharp whistling sound and a chilling killing intent.
Little Tian wasn't idle either. It swiftly pulled a small slingshot from its green underpants and nimbly fired at the robbers. "Ouch!" one of the robbers cried out in pain, a pained expression on its face, after being hit by a pebble. Little Tian barked triumphantly and continued its accurate attacks on the robbers.
With everyone's concerted efforts and valiant resistance, the bandits gradually found themselves at a disadvantage. They realized that this group was not easy to deal with, and began to have second thoughts, their attacks becoming less fierce.
Seeing this, the bandit leader knew things were going badly. Reluctantly, he whistled, "Retreat!" He glared fiercely at Liu Yu and the others, then led his men to quickly ride away on camels, raising a cloud of dust.
"Hmph, they got away fast!" Pigsy stepped out from behind Fahai, hands on his hips, and said smugly. "I thought they were going to rob me!" His round face was full of relief at surviving the ordeal and disdain for the bandits.
The group found a relatively safe place to rest in the old town. It was a dilapidated house; although the roof was broken and the walls were crumbling, it at least provided some shelter from the wind and sand.
"This desert is truly fraught with danger," Xiaoqing said. She sat on a rock, gently rubbing her aching shoulders, her face showing utter exhaustion. Sweat streamed down her forehead, dripping onto the dry ground and disappearing instantly.
"It's alright, with us here, we're not afraid of anything," Pigsy said loudly, patting his chest. Although he had just been quite frightened, he was now trying to appear brave and show off his courage.
