Chapter 2241 - 2242: Firelight
Chapter 2241 - 2242: Firelight
His speed was clearly not as fast as Lin Chen's. In terms of recovery ability, Lin Chen was indeed very strong. However, strangely enough, the mysterious black-robed figure seemed completely at ease from beginning to end.Lin Chen walked alongside the black-robed figure, and within a few breaths, he had approached the front of the hall, a few meters away.
It was then that Lin Chen raised his head completely to take in Lu Qiming standing up there.
He was dressed in a plain blue robe, but the cuffs were embroidered with gold threads, hinting at the authority of Ye Dao beneath his humble appearance.
It seemed as if Lu Qiming had been in a high position for a long time; his face showed no smile and exuded an innate anger that made Lin Chen's heart chill with fear when he looked at him.
However, Lu Qiming showed no sign of breath fluctuation at present, allowing Lin Chen to relax a little.
He remembered what had happened underground vividly—the scenes continuously playing back in his mind left Lin Chen somewhat fearful.
Suddenly, as he was observing, Lin Chen's storage ring started to tremble violently, tugging at his finger uncontrollably.
Lin Chen's eyes sharpened instantly, and his consciousness plunged down, sinking into the ring.
The once empty space within the ring was now filled with miscellaneous items, trophies Lin Chen had acquired earlier.
Yet in one corner of the ring, Lin Chen could distinctly sense a strange commotion emitting from an ominous black orb, as viscous and dark as night, spreading an eerie aura from within the ring.
Such an unexpected change caused Lin Chen's face to shift.
He knew there were strange things within; the trauma created by that figure in his sea of consciousness was still hard to heal, with traces of black mist lingering at the injury site.
Now, the orb's agitation left Lin Chen feeling somewhat at a loss.
"Even if that person emerges from within, being inside the ring without a formation, should pose no threat to me, right..."
Lin Chen contemplated, originally intending to throw it out but could only give up after considering. Now that it's inside, it might not be a bad thing for Lin Chen; who knows what kind of damage it might cause if released.
Luckily, the orb's commotion seemed to be like a child's tantrum. Though it rampaged inside, it couldn't harm Lin Chen, which reassured him somewhat.
Though he quietly lamented the loss of the items stored in the ring.
Ultimately, they were external possessions, and while Lin Chen felt a bit distressed, it was not unacceptable.
He promptly withdrew his consciousness, and now standing beside him was Kong Jingyi. Just when Lin Chen was lost in thought, Kong Jingyi had managed to drag his exhausted body up, standing beside Lin Chen.
"You have excellent skills to chase up here."
Lin Chen noticed Kong Jingyi's slightly trembling legs upon standing still, feeling amused at how competitive this person was.
"Hmph."
Kong Jingyi didn't wish to respond, merely snorting lightly with his nose. Earlier by the steps, he had mocked Lin Chen, and now with Lin Chen's teasing, he had to bear it; the circumstances between them no longer allowed him to be extreme as before.
"I'll make you regret it eventually!"
Kong Jingyi thought to himself, naturally not daring to speak it out loud, only staring ahead, choosing not to look at Lin Chen.
Now, the three stood silently in the venue, with not even a breeze blowing, and they felt a bit puzzled about what to do there.
Could it be that they had to wait for all the figures below to come up before this place would open?
They couldn't help but ponder.
During the wait, Kong Jingyi's body started to recover; gazing at the empty hall, silent as ever, he couldn't help but let his mind wander.
Finding an opportunity here would surely be better than waiting for all those below to come up first.
Thus contemplating, Kong Jingyi decided not to linger there. He circled the hall, inspecting every detail with great care, unwilling to miss any clues.
In the empty space before the hall, besides Lu Qiming above, there was nothing else, not even a chair, only four sturdy columns holding up the hall's roof.
Kong Jingyi approached the columns, examining them closely.
Each of the four columns was different; one even emitted a faint blue radiance that was almost undetectable unless approached closely. On that column were some indentations climbing up, stopping at a point, and Kong Jingyi counted them to be dozens.
Another column also had indentations; however, this time they didn't originate from the column's base but ascended from where the previous column's indentations stopped, very peculiar.
"What on earth are these things?"
Kong Jingyi was dumbfounded; he really couldn't discern their purpose.
Yet, just as he was about to leave, the column abruptly lit up, emitting a water-like wave with some displayed images appearing before the eyes.
These were shadowy figures slowly climbing the steps below, those same companions who had arrived together.
At the same time, on a side of the column, a faint flash of bright red appeared.
Kong Jingyi made a curious sound but, driven by curiosity, touched the flashing light.
Suddenly, the struggling figures below relaxed and straightened, faces revealing a trace of excitement. However, not even half a moment later, their expressions changed abruptly as a glow rose from the steps beneath them.
"Ah!..."
After the ripple effect produced light and shadow, suddenly flames ignited below the steps, the blaze reaching the heavens and lighting up the hall's scenery.
From within the blaze, cries of anguish and fury could be heard.
"Not good!"
Lin Chen's expression shifted; beneath those steps were Sun Tianming and Chen Jie, and this fire was far beyond what they could handle.
His expression changed, and he lifted his foot to rush toward the steps behind.
At that moment, many figures were crossing up the steps into the hall, their expressions terrified, bodies showing traces of gray-black, hair and clothes singed.
Among them, Chen Jie and Sun Tianming hurriedly ascended. Their condition was no better than those people, looking disheveled and glancing back below with lingering fear.
